Literature of Christendom is a classical high school literature course that explores the major works of the medieval and early Renaissance periods through the lens of the Christian intellectual tradition.

Students trace the development of the heroic ideal from pagan epic to Christian moral and spiritual vision, reading works such as Beowulf, The Song of Roland, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Divine Comedy, The Canterbury Tales, and selected plays of Shakespeare.

The course emphasizes close reading, analytical writing, and interpretation across multiple levels—literal, allegorical, moral, and anagogical—while engaging key questions about Providence, free will, justice, and the nature of the soul.

As a companion to the historical study of Christendom, Kolbe Academy’s Era of Christendom course, this course situates literature within its broader cultural and theological context, helping students understand how the great works of this period present a coherent vision of reality shaped by faith and reason.
