Course Information:
This course is designed to help students develop strong academic writing skills by focusing on grammar, structure, argumentation, and the writing process. Students will learn how to craft clear, logical, and well-supported essays while mastering the fundamentals of English grammar and mechanics.
Through targeted lessons on sentence structure, noun and verb functions, brainstorming techniques, thesis development, outlining, and organization, students will gain confidence in writing and revising academic papers. They will explore different essay types including persuasive, expository, and narrative. They will learn to incorporate in-text citations, works cited pages, and MLA formatting. The course will also emphasize proofreading, editing, and refining writing for clarity and impact.
By systematically reviewing vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation alongside writing strategies students will improve their ability to construct polished, well-organized academic essays. Course materials include Jensen’s Grammar, Jensen’s Punctuation, Kolbe Academy’s Writing & Style Guide, Kolbe Guided Writing Practice, and Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop Level D.
By the end of the course, students will have the skills necessary to effectively communicate their ideas in written form, preparing them for academic success and beyond.
