This Catholic homeschool course provides a deep dive into Catholic theology, focusing on the Sacraments, the Mass, Prayer, and early Church History. The course is structured into two semesters, which may be taught in any order.
In the first semester, students will explore the origins of the seven Sacraments, their theological development, and their essential role in the Christian life. They will also be introduced to the Church’s rich tradition of prayer, learning how it has shaped Catholic spirituality.
The second semester, Church History I, covers the Church’s development from the end of the Apostolic Age (circa 90 A.D.) to the conversion of Emperor Constantine (325 A.D.). Students will examine the challenges, growth, and theological foundations of the early Church during this formative period.
This course is tailored for Catholic homeschool families seeking a rigorous, faith-based curriculum that deepens their understanding of Catholic theology and Church history. Additionally, students looking for a greater challenge can opt for the honors-level version of the course.
In our traditional courses, parents are provided with detailed weekly course plans, tests, and answer keys to help guide students through the material. Parents submit sample work and recommended course grades to Kolbe for review and approval. Textbooks and teacher manuals are available. This honors course will have 4 major assignments per semester, which may include essays, oral presentations, or other appropriate assignments pertinent to the course. The course may also include semester exams, periodic tests, quizzes, reading, and minor weekly assignments. Reading assignments will be more extensive than the corresponding core level course.
